Tools to Support Learning
The Development Options Guide (DOG)
The Development Options Guide is a directory, which lists a variety of learning resources aimed at helping an individual develop his/her competence through a self-directed action programme. The 'action-learning' principles underpin most of the activities proposed.
Target Group
This guide has been developed for on-the-job use as personal development following an assessment centre, an appraisal, or simply because an individual wants to improve themselves and their abilities.
Format of the Workshop
- The individual and manager agree on the required development areas
- Both work together in drawing up an activity plan. This forms the basis for subsequent monitoring.
- Most of the activities can be integrated into daily work. In this way, learning is not separate from doing the job.
- The manager is critical to the successful implementation of the programme - in the first two steps, and should assess that each activity is completed to a satisfactory standard.
